korea's as the host 2023 world scout jamboree

At the 41st World Scout Conference held at Baku Congress Center, Baku, Azerbaijan on 16 August, 160 member countries voted on the host city of the 25th World Scout Jamboree, which is to be held in 2023. Saemangeum, Korea was chosen as the host.

Jamboree is derived from the shivaree of the North American Indians with the meaning of "joyful play" and "delightful feast".  It originated when Baden Powell named the first international largest gathering of Scouts as jamboree in 1920, it is held every four years with challenging and attractive activities for young Scouts of specific age group, in open air with tent city with all basic facilities for life is available.

The founder of the scout movement, Baden Powell, use to invite young Scouts from all over the world, who have contributed to the development of their community with a challenging spirit and held gatherings. They were made to exchange culture and enjoy adventure of open air from around the world -  is the beginning of jamboree.

The Scout Movement was launched in the UK in 1907 and is now a global youth NGO with more than 40 million young people from 165 active member countries around the world. Scouts also have cooperative relationships with international organizations such as UNICEF, ECOSOC, UNESCO, and WHO.

Jamboree is the world youth gathering who will carry humanity with true Scout spirit for future. They all live in the nature/ open air, in transcending country, nation, religion and language, promote their friendship through various events and process activities to contribute to world peace.

The youth in the jamboree live together in a temporary "global tent city."  Like many cities, the global tent city or Jamboree will also have various facilities such as accommodation with complete basic amenities, market, and hospital also much more. Campers in the jamboree are the youths who will lead the society in the future.

Korea successfully hosted the 17th World Jamboree in Gangwon Province in 1991, over 20,000 young people and leaders from 133 countries participated in Jamboree, boosting Korea's nationality and contributing to the Korean economy and the economic revitalization of the Gangwon region.

In particular, young people from all over the world, who are the future leaders of the world Scouting, will able to witness the progress of Korea by visiting and will contribute in building the image of Korea through cultural understanding and provide an opportunity for young people to be friendly and good citizens.

In addition, the international status and trust of Korea will be improved, and there have also been achievements in the field of practical East-West harmony and the field of peace of humanity.

In continuation of world Jamboree hosted by Korea in 1991, many  Asia-Pacific regional Scout activities were held for 25 years since the 1991 and a total of 115,413 youths from 365 countries visited the Goseong area of ​​Gangwon province to gain tourism and regional economic stimulation effects.

25th World Scout Jamboree in 2023, it is necessary to gear up for a large-scale international 50,000 youths, along with 30 world leaders from 169 countries from around the world to come to Korea and enjoy every bit of it.

It is aimed to raise national brand value of Korea, by cultural exchange and the visit of more than 169 countries, especially youth who make the trend happen.

In addition, it is expected that the economy will get boost for Korea and will be help in promoting the economic revitalization, also in contributing to the enhancement of global capacity and youth activities of local, national and international youth exchange activities also to provide opportunities to interact with young people.

In particular, Jamboree has the advantage in creating high efficiency with low budget because it has fewer burdens on the additional budget cost such as infrastructure for the Olympics and the World Cup in sports.

A large gathering of youths and adults to pioneer, explore, communicate and debate, jamborees are able to strengthen personal competence and fulfill the needs derived from stress, anxiety and incongruity in social norms and becoming a model for character education.
